Helping Headway - Volunteers
Thinking about becoming a Volunteer?
Claudette is a client at the Headway MK and also volunteers her time to help with the day to day running of the unit.
Even people with busy schedules could fit in just a couple of hours each week to support the learning and independence of those we work with at Headway.
Volunteering can be a valuable, character building and rewarding experience. It is also an opportunity to share skills that you have learned yourself.
Headway MK welcomes the involvement of volunteers to help support the clients attending the centre.
A volunteer can help Headway MK with as much or as little time as they have available. Volunteers can help through:
- Joining in activities at the centre, supporting our clients when needed.
- Helping to set up, organise and clear up activity sessions.
- Joining groups on excursions, helping clients benefit from their visit.
Some volunteers might wish to help with specific activities, such as:
- Using their cars to transport clients between their homes and the Neath Hill centre,
- Befriending clients to help with their rehabilitation in the wider community,
- Acting as a mentor to clients with specific needs.
Other volunteers may wish to help with particular activities, such as a special excursion, centre activity, fund raising or organisational requirement.
Volunteers may wish to offer time in a variety of ways, such as:
- A few hours spread over a week,
- A few hours on any one day,
- Mornings only, afternoons only,
- Help over a particular period in the year,
- Help with a specific series of activity sessions.
If you feel you could offer some time to Headway MK why not talk to Sandy, the Headway MK Co-ordinator. Remember, there is no obligation – and any volunteer activity is based upon what you can offer and your own personal circumstances.
Download a volunteer application form here, complete it and send it to Sandy Williamson at the Headway MK centre. Sandy will make an appointment for you where you can discuss your application and, if appropriate, become a welcome volunteer.
Please note that it is our policy to require volunteers at Headway MK to submit to a police CRO check before being allowed to work with the clients attending the unit.
Volunteers offering to transport clients between the unit and their homes are required to provide evidence of appropriate insurance. The costs of transport are a recognised expense and are reimbursed at an agreed rate.
